Rescue Me ID: 14-03-03-00251Darla/Peanut (female)
Meet Peanut and Darla! These cuties are only 1 year old. Darla weighs 17lbs. and Peanut weighs 11. They are a great mix of Jack and Chi. (Doesn't that sound like a drink???) Even tho they are ckc registered as chihuahuas we think there must have been a JRT somewhere around. Peanut will win your heart with her playful and sweet nature she loves to chase a laser and ball. Her sister Darla is a cuddle bug and laid back. They love to play and romp around together during the day. When playtime is over they take their naps together like good little girls. They are used to having someone home during the day to let them out. Darla and her sister have been together since birth. They are housebroken and loving. They share their house now with cats and do well when boarded with other dogs. If you are looking for the perfect pair just out of puppyhood with good manners in place; you could not find two sweeter more well behaved sisters. Darla and Peanut would love a home together. (Less)

Animal ID: A22032506Rio (male)
Power sniffer Rio! This guy loves to explore and check out every nook and cranny. He is a mild natured little guy who just wants to find a lap to call his own. He doesn't seem to know any cues, but will work for a tasty treat (hot dogs seem to do the trick). At this point in time, Rio doesn't seem to be interested in toys or play really, but I'm sure he would love to join you for a nice long walk where he can check out the neighborhood. While not super playful, he doesn't seem to mind other dogs and may make a nice companion to another easygoing or even timid dog. We are seeking a home with children 8 and up, as he was a little uncomfortable with invasive handling. (Less)

Animal ID: 41Alice (female)
Because we are still a small rescue, WE PRIMARILY ADOPT ONLY TO THOSE IN VIRGINIA OR THE NEAR SURROUNDING AREA. Travel by adopter may be necessary for a meet and greet. Whelped: Jan 25, 2011. This is an estimated date. Brought into the rescue: Jan 25, 2014 Rescue cared for in: Hampton Roads, VA About Alice: Hello woofs everybody! My name is Alice. I am looking for my new forever family! The awesome people at Pugs U Gotta Save took me in because my former owner didn't have enough time for me and wanted me to have the best life. My foster family says that I am super sweet and loving. I LOVE lots of attention and if you are a loving and active person or family then I am the girl for you! My foster family says I am a high energy girl and would do best in a home with someone to play and exercise with me. A house with fenced yard and small doggie companion to play with would be awesome. I enjoy playing, running, taking walks and following my foster family everywhere. I like to talk sometimes so families in an apartment or with condo neighbors might not be the best fit for me. Older children would be best because I can be super playful. I also am not a fan of being in the vet office. I just need a little extra care and the right kind of attention when I am there. If I sound like your puggie match then don't delay and apply for me today!! Tail wags XOXO Alice Also please consider donating to the rescue to help them save more pugs and keep them out of kill shelters. Fill out an adoption application (http://adopt.pugsugottasave.org) or provide a donation to help with all of the vetting and care I have needed (http://donate.pugsugottasave.org). When applying to adopt be sure to ask for none other than Alice! Could that be you??? Please visit http://donate.pugsugottasave.org to provide support. Are you the one that has room in your heart to adopt a vocal, energetic young girl? If so, please visit http://adopt.pugsugottasave.org to begin the formsite online application. Because we are still a small rescue, we primarily adopt only to those in Virginia or the near surrounding area. Donations are accepted at http://donate.pugsugottasave.org. Otherwise, please also look through our website http://www.pugsugottasave.org or facebook (https://www.facebook.com/PugsUGottaSave) for more information about our rescue, the status of the pugs we have available or have successfully adopted, or to possibly volunteer. |Rescue Me ID: 14-02-12-00055Tito (male)|
[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Tito is a sweet puppy who will be 2 in July. He was adopted at 4 months and has always had fear of being touched around the head and face. He has bonded well with our family, but because we have 2 small children, he can get nippy when caught off guard. Our kids adore him, but we think he'd be better off in a home without kids. He is irrationally afraid at the vet's office and has to be sedated for any visit. He has completed boot camp training, is leash-trained, house-trained and crate-trained. He does well with basic commands. He would love to be in a home where he is pampered and allowed to nap wherever he likes, and doesn't have to compete for laptime. He would probably do well with other dogs if they are patient with his jumping and barking. He was previously in a home with a Great Dane and got along well with that dog. We had an much older cat who he enjoyed playing with as well. He still has a lot of puppy energy and loves to run around outside. He would also benefit from further training classes. He responds well to training, we just can't work with him as often as we would like. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-08-00250Cocoa (female)
Cocoa is a great dog and she needs a great family. Her owner recently died and I have been left with the task to find her and her mixed pup a forever home. I would love to be able to keep them together but I know that realistically that is a challenge. They are both up to date on all shots, and have been spayed. They are healthy, have lots of enters and love to play. Cocoa loves children of all ages and does well with strangers. Her pup Ida, also does well with children, but is shy of strangers, and very nervous and timid when someone new is around. They love to sleep in bed under the covers, enjoy getting a bath and long rides in the car. They are spoiled and need a home that can continue to treat them like the top dogs they think they are!! Please help me in finding them a new family that the deserve! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-03-21-00065Little Hoss (male)
Little Hoss is an abuse survivor. Despite the trials of his past, he is sweet, loving and affectionate. He lives for car rides and cuddles and will spend lots of time with his head tucked up under your arm (it makes him feel safe). He does have a heart condition that requires daily medication, but he takes his pills with no complaint. He is also underweight right now, but his foster mom is working to correct that. Hoss is a perfect gentleman he is house trained and great with both children and cats. He would definitely prefer a home with no other dogs. This sweet little dog has endured so much, it is past time for him to have a forever home and a loving family of his own. If you can give Little Hoss the respect, love and attention he deserves, contact PAWS of Southwest Virginia today! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Virginia
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
