'Buddy' was rescued by us from a neglect situation when we were driving home from an out of town meeting. We already have a lot of animals and as this little guy is so agreeable and easy going, we thought we could handle one more. Our vet figures he's half Terrier, but cannot figure out which breed. He loves to burrow and is keen to chase things that run from him, but he's learned to recognize our 6 cats as 'family'. Unfortunately, most of them bully him terribly and this is making life hard for him. He is 1 year, and we had him neutered and he is now current on all his shots. His situation was 5 kids and their mostly absent Mom. We think ... (Read More)he lived on what he could scrounge. For whatever reason, he's very fearful about eating and prefers to scrounge catfood when we're not looking. While I'm doing my best to change the cats' routines, now nobody's happy. After many false starts and very few bites of all sorts of dog-foods and homemade attempts, he's happy eating raw chicken and beef with bones. Unfortunately, my husband and I have been at odds on how to train him where to eat, and this isn't good for the dog. After 2 months we think it's best that he find a home with fewer animals that bully him / steal his food. I wanted to crate train him, but the husband feels sorry for him so sneaks him raw bones when I leave, ergo raw bones all over the house. One of us cannot live with that. This is not going to work for any of us. He DID chase our chickens when he first got here, but learned not to after a lot of walks where he was gotten used to the idea that they were 'family' a word he learned. This picture is when we first got him. He's fatter ('cause of all the catfood!) and prettier and glossier now. Ace is a lovable chi weenie. He is active from the moment he wakes up until he is put in his crate for the night. He tires out by going on long walks or jogs. Loves to play with other dogs of same size and does not mind cats. When watching TV he likes to snuggle next to you. Plays well by himself but loves to play with his house mate. Likes going to the park. He sleeps in a crate at night with no problem. He likes the crate. He is not neutered so the fee is to pay for half of the procedure, I will help out with the other half. My husband and I rescued a 10 pound Chihuahua mix (with possibly Beagle, Jack Russel or another terrier) in our neighborhood in south Arlington last week. I was told if we took him to a shelter they'd probably put him down. He's been staying with us since then and he is a sweet heart. You can tell he has had a rough time out on the streets and he just wants to be cared for. He gives a lot of love in return. He's crate trained, hasn't had any accidents in our house. Gets along great with our other two dogs and he is very affectionate to us. He's content to just chill out and lay around, but he also likes to run and play outside. Haven't ... (Read More)noticed any abnormal behavior and have had no issues with him. Took him to the vet to check out some skin issues and found out he has demodex (not contagious to other dogs or humans). I got medicine and an antibiotic for him and have started him on them - he's already showing improvement, should be cleared up in the next few weeks. The vet thinks he's around a year old, no older than two years. He is such a great dog and the vet said he should regrow his missing hair patches soon now that he's on medicine. Also, the vet says other than the demodex and he's in really good health. I really would love to keep him, but we already have two dogs and cannot manage three. But, I want to know he's going somewhere that will take care of him and find him a loving home. He really is just a doll. We need to find a home for him as soon as possible. Chance is the sweetest little puppy who just wants to be held. Sadly his story wasn't a very nice one. This little guy was thrown from a moving car and suffered some damaged to his head. Surgery was done to remove bone fragments from his skull, which has left him with a soft spot on his head. For this reason he's consider special needs. He gets around just fine and is a regular normal puppy, but special care has to be taken to make sure he doesn't have any further head trauma. Say hello to Joey. This poor little guy was found on the streets infested with fleas and starving! But, no more! This guy is now a very happy, healthy, silly boy! He is very calm, quiet and loving. He really only barks when he is excited while playing. He loves cats, dogs and people, but, is very skiddish around small children. Joey, does suffer from seizures if he does not take medication. The medication very inexpensive, and he only needs one per day. This is by no means a handicap, or diminish the love he has to offer. DFW area: Abbey wants a forever home. She would do best in a home where she is the only child - furry or otherwise. She needs a hooman who will play ball with her - she loves to chase the tiny tennis balls. She will need patience because she does not trust easily & we believe she was abused before we rescued her. She loves to run in the backyard & chase birds (which she never catches) so a fenced yard is a requirement. She is a great burglar alarm - if you have a burglar & I guarantee she will not roll over for a bone like that dumb dog on the insurance commercials. She will bite the burglars. Adoption fee is $75 - we really want her in a great furrever home more than to recoup vet costs...U Abbey was rescued from Collin County Animal Shelter (CCAS) on Memorial Day 2011. She was an owner surrender & was almost killed the day before I pulled her & was scheduled again for the day I picked her up. She has 'trust issues' & will need an adoptor who is very patient. Today was the first time I have been able to pick her up though she has crawled into laps on her own. Even when she has crawled into laps on her own, she has not been willing to allow belly rubs or ear scratches. She seems to like older persons more than younger & females more than males. We suspect from behaviors observed that she was in an abusive household before released to CCAS. At this point, I would not trust her with small children though she has done OK with teens. She is OK with our other dogs. Abbey is a little over 2 years old. She appears to be a purebred chihuahua, but is not show quality by any means. Her muzzle is a bit longer & she is rather leggy. She does have big ears & big eyes, but her topline is a bit curvy. She has freckles under her white fur. Her coat is very short. Jack is a sweet, loving, and kind little angel. My wife and I got Jack about 7 years ago as a puppy and have loved him and his presence ever since. About 3 years ago, Jack got an ear infection and we treated it asap and got him back to normal. About every 6 months the ear infection would come back and we continued to treat it each time. Finally, it got so out of hand, the Vet recommended a complete ear canal ablation removing the entire ear canal due to chronic ear infections. This surgery is anywhere from $2,000-$2,500 and we are not in a place where we can afford that right now. We would absolutely love to keep Jack and fix his ear, ... Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
