Zip! He is a 2 year old Jackhuahua aka Jack Chi (Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix) He weighs 13 lbs and has a docked tail. Zip is FULL of ZIP! He is very playful and does great with the other dogs. Has not been cat tested yet. He also ignored our children when they were playing in the exercise pen with him, but I wouldn't suggest him in a home with very young children who are not dog gentle. He has the energy of a Jack Russell and is a busy boy. He was named ZIP at the shelter he came from and what a fitting name it is. Zip was having a hard time being saved at the shelter because he had a 2 minute seizure at intake. He hasn't had any since and it seems to have been a one time thing which can happen. Our own personal pet had a seizure once known in her so far 8 year life and tested normal at the vet. That seems to be Zip's issue as well. Zip is heartworm positive and will start treatment soon! Bernice is a sweet dog who came to us from the local shelter. She is housebroken and will go to the door when she needs to go outside. She was protective of her food when we got her, but this has improved over time. This is why we don't recommend her for a home with small kids. She does have a few medical issues which we have been treating. One is that she has small mammary masses, which have not changed in over six months since we got her. We suspect they are benign. She also had a severe dental infection and we extracted teeth to resolve that. She had some abnormal vital signs during her anesthesia for her dentistry, so we did not spay her ... She does have an itching problem that is doing great on medication. She may need to take this medication long term. Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in South Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
