He is not good with other dogs and needs to be the only dog in the house. We currently have 3 other dogs with him and he is showing his dominant side and we cannot have this. He is very smart and knows all of the simple commands. Like his sister Sophia, Rex is indifferent around cats, however he gets along great with other dogs. He also warms up pretty quickly to anyone he meets, and he loves kids. Rex and Sophia grew up together and if at all possible, they would love to be placed together. Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chopper is about 8/9yrs old. We rescued him when he was almost 1yr old from our local vets office. He was abused, neglected and was just dropped off. A friend called us to help. With lots of work he has blossomed into a lovable dog who loves attention. He loves adults but is very anxious with younger children. He prefers a calm quiet enviroment. He does well with my 8yr old who is gentle with him but my 3 n 4yr olds makes him very anxious so I would say no children under 10yrs of age. He has been great with our cats and female dogs large or small. We recently got a male shepherd and he does not get along with him at all. I'm afraid that my ... I'm looking for a home with older or no children with someone who can give him the love he deserves. He loves attention n with my younger kids scaring him he is just not happy here which breaks my heart.I will be very strict on who he goes to cause this is something I do not want to do but feel he's miserable and it's not fair to him. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-08-00093Chloe (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Chloe is a tiny 6-pound, approx. 1-year-old PomChi that was born with a congenital issue called Hydrocephalus. This is a somewhat common condition in Chihuahuas in which the cerebrospinal fluid that covers the brain builds up and does not allow the skull to completely close. Chloe was born with this condition and has the largest opening in her skull that our vet and neurologist have ever seen. She is to be considered very fragile as the entire top of her head is missing the skull to protect her little noggin. We believe that this large opening has actually benefitted Chloe and kept the fluid pressure from building up and causing seizures, ... (Read More)which is the most common side effect with Hydrocephalus pups. She has been prescribed life-long Prilosec by the neurologist, which does not eliminate the current fluid in her brain, but will reduce any future production. Despite her condition, she fared extremely well during her neurological assessment. Other than the typical dome-shaped head and eyes that point outwards, Chloe is a healthy little girl. Chloe would do best with someone who has lots of time to dote on her as she is quite a lover and a Diva. To ensure her safety, only homes without children and young grandchildren will be considered. It is also important that her forever home have only small, calm pets with low energy. Chloe has made major progress in her foster home where she has become part of the pack after slow introduction to other pups while in her safe zone. She sleeps in her crate at night, goes out to potty with the other pups, and even uses a pee pad by the door if she does not get outside in time. Chloe loves playing with soft toys, sitting on the couch with you or in bed and getting belly rubs for as long as you can rub. It will take some time for Chloe to adjust to a new home, but with love, patience, and time it is possible. She will be overwhelmed at first so small steps of introduction is best and she would most likely require an area of her own with slow introduction to the home and pets. Chloe came from an overcrowded 'rescue' down south and was infested with parasites, which have been since been eliminated. She is a pretty normal pup and is learning that a human hand means belly rubs and play time. She has just recently taken interest in toys and likes to say hi to the other dogs in her foster home. Her demeanor has gone from quite feisty to accepting being handled, even by the vets which is a big improvement. A potential adopter must understand Hydrocephalus and the symptoms that will progress over the years. We highly recommend yearly visits to a neurologist to review her behavioral/neurological status and medications and maintain the best possible treatment plan for Chloe. There is a surgery available, but one that is not to be considered lightly as serious risks and complications can occur. The prognosis for hydrocephalus depends on its duration and severity, and our sweet Chloe is by far an acute case. Chloe is a special girl that needs a special home to love her...and boy does she ever love you back and provide comical entertainment. Won't you be her happily ever after? Go to PawsitivelyPom.rescuegroups.org to give her a home of her own. Chloe's adoption fee is $250 (reduced to $150 for senior citizens 65+) and helps to cover the costs of her current vaccines (rabies, distemper, and bordatella), spay, microchip, heartworm and fecal tests, neurological assessment, and cranial ultrasound. He wasn't doing well in the shelter environment and was held for rescue. He is a nervous little guy around new people, so not recommended for a home with small children. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-07-00294T Walker (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Our little Texas Walker, more affectionately known as "T" to many, has far too long a story, and has been waiting patiently for his forever home. T Walker, true to his breed (chihuahua), takes a bit more time to warm up to new people than some others. During his first week at Dog Town, our staff quickly learned that he needed to approach us, rather than us approaching him. We took the "ignore" approach, and let him come around in his own time. Sure enough, just days later, we felt two little paws scratch at our legs for pets. Just like that, we had a little buddy. T Walker's fear of new people manifests itself in some ... (Read More)less than ideal ways for a "meet and greet". Most people want to instantly reach in and pet the adorable dog, but he needs more space than that. He's looking for that one special adopter who will respect his needs, and in return, he will be a wonderful, loyal companion. After a few months of no luck at the adoption center, a wonderful foster stepped forward for T Walker. We decided to find out just how he can do in a home environment, and he has certainly exceeded expectations! T Walker is his foster mom, Deb's, little shadow! He's most content by her side, and loves sleeping quietly in his bed while she works from home. He is house trained, crate trained, and has been attending obedience school where he's a star pupil. He knows MANY basic commands and tricks, and will show them off with just a small piece of chicken or a yummy training treat. Because of T Walker's need for time and space, his ideal home would be without children. He does seem to prefer women to men, but could warm up to either as long as he's given the time. T prefers less pushy dogs, who won't be too in his face, or overly playful. He does have a few favorite friends he loves to zip around the yard with, so he could live with another very low key dog. His perfect home would be low traffic, and with someone who is willing to continue his training and socialization. With just some time and love, you're looking at having a friend for life. What more could you ask for? For more information, or to meet T Walker and those big soulful eyes, email adoptions@dogtown309.com. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Pennsylvania
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
