Rescue Me ID: 14-07-12-00005Scooter (male)
Young adult intact male. Might be Chihuahua Rat Terrier mix. Person who has Scooter has him because a family member didn't want him anymore because Scooter wasn't interested in their female for breeding and the family member basically dumped the dog on her. She cannot keep it. If she doesn't find a home soon then she may have to surrender it to the Humane Society. This is a sad story and so unfair to this beautiful little dog. He's a little shy at first but warms up with treats, would be a good cuddle bug.

pets - - - reply x prohibited[?] Posted: 2 days ago Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) (O'Fallon, MO) (2 of 2) My name is Julio. I am a Chihuahau / Dachshund mix. My current 'mom' saved my 4 years ago from an irresponsible breeder, who was going to let me die because I was the runt of my litter. But, she is horribly allergic to me and I spend a lot of time in my kennel, and she feels awful about it. I have to wear a diaper because sometimes I don't know when I'm peeing, which my vet says is probably from my bad breeding. I am also very skittish, and take a long time to warm up to people. But once I let you in, I will love you forever. I love to play with toys and run around having fun inside. I am afraid to spend too much time alone outdoors and need a fenced in yard. What I mostly need is someone who will love me and be able to spend time with me, without breaking out into hives. My 'mom' is charging a $50 rehoming fee, in the hopes I will find a loving forever home. I will come with my kennel if you want it and my diapering supplies. (Less)

We have a pure breed male Chihuahua. His name is Ringo. He is 3yrs old. My husband and I have 6 children who love to rescue animals and bring them home. Currently we have 7 dogs and 5 cats, one rabbit. Our neighborhood only allows a total of 4 animals. My husband and I both work long hours and can not spend the time with these pups. Ringo is skittish around people he first meets. He is very loving. A true Chihuahua personality. He is black and starting to get some white around his eyes. He weighs approx. 7 lbs.

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-18-00401Alfie (male)
Alfie became part of our family 8 years ago when he was just a few weeks old. He is a 7 pound chihuahua and has most of the common traits. He is meek, loyal, playful, sweet, awkward, jealous and protective. He and our other chihuahua have a fun love/hate relationship and everything was great until we began having children. After our 1st son was born, 3yrs ago, he became extremely nervous. Once our son was mobile, he began to bark and snap at him. We were very concerned then but manage to keep them apart. 1yr ago we had our 2nd son and Alfie has started to really act out. Due to various out of character behavior we find ourselves kenneling him more frequent. We know this is no way for a dog to live and regretfully have decided to find Alfie another loving home. He is a perfect pet for a single person or a home without children. He does best with other chihuahuas or dogs his size. As difficult as this is for us we know that Alfie will be a blessing to his new home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-11-00059Rocky (male)
Rocky is a 12 year old long haired Chihuahua. He is neutered and his hair is clipped short. He is in good health. He wasn't socialized well when i got him at 6 months of age. It takes awhile for him to accept people, and he is shy around children. I moved from a house with a large , fenced yard a year and a half ago, to a tiny apartment with no fenced yard. He has adjusted to my grandchildren, rather cautiously, he likes them, and wants them to pet him, but sometimes when i leave the room he will nip them or growl at them.. He also marks the furniture...and any room he can get to. . (Which is why he was stuck in a tiny crate and left in a dark room before I got him. After 12 years, he still has these behaviors). He is very sweet and loving to me. But after a year and a half in this little apartment, he is not happy, and he has nearly ruined my apartment. I would never abandon him, but I wonder if there is someone who is retired, and has the time and patience, and a fenced yard who might be able to give him a better life...and keep me from getting evicted! I am gone for many hours during the day. He has a small enclosed area in my kitchen with plastic and papers where he has to stay while i'm gone because he can't be allowed the run of even the entire kitchen. It is a bad situation, but I love him, and I would never abandon him. So, dog lovers, what do you think? Is there any hope of finding a happier situation for an older, not perfect dog like Rocky? I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks! You can email me at: email@example.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-28-00546Emily (female)
DOB: 8/5/2008, Approx Weight: 20 lbs. $175 adoption fee includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Emily is a large Chihuahua that was surrendered to Furry Kids Refuge when her owner passed away. Emily is timid, but we don't feel that she was abused. She is a very sweet girl and gets along well with other dogs. She does need to lose some weight, and has already lost some. She is a very solid little dog and is physically bigger than most Chihuahuas. Emily was pee wee pad trained and has been learning how to potty outside....she is doing well !! She seems to prefer going outside now to potty. She is very smart and has caught on very quickly. Emily has adjusted to her foster home very well and is starting to enjoy the other dogs she has to play with. At first she was timid but in no time she fit right in. She likes to run in the yard and even tries to chase birds that are flying. Emily is a total sweetheart and just a lovely dog. She looks like she is smiling all the time. Emily is going to make some family a wonderful companion and would be a great one for most any family. She does a happy dance first thing in the morning and is a joyful furry kid. Emily has been spayed, vaccinated, had her teeth cleaned and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Emily, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-05-00654Oz (male)
Approx DOB: 11/2006 Approx Weight: 15 lbs. Adoption Fee: $150 includes a 2 week trial to help ensure everyone's happiness! Oz is a Terrier mix who was released to Furry Kids by his family. When children started arriving in the family, Oz was very nervous around them. So, Oz came to Furry Kids to see if we could find him home without small children. Oz is a very playful, energetic, loving, and appears to be housebroken. You would never know that he has Medial patella luxation (MPL) in both back legs. MPL is a condition in which the patella (knee-cap) no longer glides within its natural groove (sulcus) in the femur, the upper bone of the knee joint. Due to his age, our vets have indicated that surgery to correct his legs would not benefit him. Oz doesn't show any indication of being in pain, but is he does, he can be given a vet approved painkiller, such as Rimadyl (or the generic Vetprofen). Oz has shown a great deal of interest in cats (actually, he's a little obsessed with them!), so it would be best for him to go to a home that didn't have cats. Oz has been neutered, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped. Please fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on 'Adopt A Dog' and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-05-00594Diva (female)
[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Approx DOB: 6/2009 Approx Weight: 15 pds Adoption Fee: $175 A 2 week trial is included to help ensure everyone's happiness. Diva has had numerous seizures in the past but they recently stopped due to the daily medication she takes. She has to have a full blood panel done every 6-12 months to check the levels and to make sure they are not damaging her organs. This is Diva , her owner didn't want her any more so they gave her and her 2 week old baby to Furry Kids. Diva is a very sweet and a loving little girl. She is pretty much housebroke, but since she is on medication for her seizures it makes her have to go potty a lot more . Her foster mom crates her ( in a plastic crate only) with potty pads when she is out of the house to give her a option to relieve herself and to also protect her if she was to have a seizure. Diva's foster mom says this little girl is just the most loving furry kid you will ever meet. She loves all other animals, children, adults. She loves to go for car rides and walks. She is always happy and just a joy to foster. Diva has not had a seizure since August 2012 so the vet feels that her medication is at the right level now to keep her from having any more. Diva has been spayed, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped and her adoption fee includes a 2 week trial to help ensure everyone's happiness. If you think that Diva could be the dog for you go to , www.Furrykidsrefuge.org. and click on' Adopt A Dog ' and fill out the on line app. One our volunteers will contact you as soon as possible , please be patient, we all work and have families . |PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Missouri|
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Missouri if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
