Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Adorable Max is a 1-year-old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, who is sweet, loving, and playful. This 8-lb. bundle of energy loves to play gentle games of tug and tumble with his humans, enjoys cuddling and tummy rubs, and is a good snuggle companion. Once outside, however, Max is all terrier--ready to hunt and play and investigate all things that need investigating. Because Max loves to explore, he would do best to have a fenced yard. A pup at heart, he still uses his mouth at times for attention, but he's also quite an accomplished fellow in that he's already fully house trained and crate trained. Max gets along with other small dogs and humans, ... (Read More)but he's not fond of the cats at his foster home. He is actually afraid of them and likes to bark and scold them for what he perceives as their misbehavior. Recently Max had surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to correct a problem in his hip. His recovery has gone really well, and the orthopedic vet predicts that Max will have full use and function of his leg for life. He is now ready to go to his forever home, where he will delight in giving you lots of kisses and nibbles and may even tickle your toes if you're wearing sandals. Doesn't he sound like the perfect future occupant of your lap? Max thinks so and urges you to check out more pictures of him and his funny antics in his online album at . ========================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Max, please go to New Rattitude's website at, where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. Rescue Me ID: 16-02-14-00495Chewy & Brownie (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My parents who live in Livonia have 2 mother/daughter chihuahuas that need to be relocated to a furever home. While they do love the chihuahuas, they are not capable of caring for the chihuahuas to give them a healthy nor fulfilling life. The two chihuahuas are a bonded unbreakable pair as one is the mother named Chewy, and a daughter named Brownie. Chewy is a 9-year-old 8-lb pure bred chihuahua, tri-colored black/white/brown. Brownie is a 8-year-old 15-lb chihuahua mix with the same coloring as its mother. They are very sweet and cuddly. From my observation, the chihuahuas need to be rehabilitated before they can be considered adoptable. ... (Read More)They have been living indoors with each other and don't have a lot of outside interactions with strangers or other dogs. They bark and become very defensive when anyone new comes into the house. Both dogs immediately bark at any stranger/dog on walks as well. Also, when they are at home alone during the day, they intermittently bark at any noise they hear near the house. Clearly, they need someone who can give them a lot of attention and can train them to trust humans and not be so anxious all the time. They might nip at aggressive strangers, but no real damage has ever been done. While they will calm down after the new person is around, it's not quiet for some time. With any new dog, I am not sure when they ever put their guard down. I believe they need lots of socialization and comfort. They know how to use the bathroom outside and on the pee pad indoors, but I wouldn't trust they always go on the pee pad indoors. Brownie will definitely poop outside (if walked), but Chewy seems to only defecate indoors. I think if they had a structured schedule for walks/potty breaks, that they can learn to go outside. On the bright side, they love warm and cuddly places like inside blankets or on couches. They will never want to leave your side or off your lap! They are very sweet to each other and travel as a pack. Brownie has a very submissive personality as once she is familiar with you, she'll just flip over to her belly for some rubs. But, Chewy takes a lot of time for her to get comfortable with you. They are in need of some real love and routine schedules. My parents are at work 12+ hours a day at least 6 days a week. Also, now they are getting old and are just not able to give these chihuahuas the care they extremely need. We can't bear to give them an animal shelter, so we are desperately looking for a rescue who can rehabilitate them (with appropriate fosters) and then find them their furever home and be truly happy. If we had any preference, we are looking for an experienced dog owner who doesn't have other dogs/cats. They must be home a lot, preferably someone who is retired or works from home because they really crave human interaction with their human. They are good for someone who loves cuddle parties and leisure walks outside. Since they are small, they do not require runs outside but do love walks outside. We would prefer someone with a backyard, so they can potty and get fresh air. We need someone who wants to have adorable fur babies to love and cherish furever and ever. They will certainly love you back and become your shadow (because they will follow you around). They are up to date on their medical needs/records, they have been going to Pets Smart banfield and are updated on all of their shots. We can include all of their collars, leashes, clothing items, and bowls (basically all of their belongings). Please advise what appropriate information we need regarding how to begin the steps to finding them the rehabilitation and home they need. We appreciate any information or reference. Thank you. PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Michigan
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Michigan if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.

Some Chihuahuas are so small they can stand upright in a person's hand. Chihuahuas were the oldest breed on the North American continent. Though associated with Mexico, Chihuahuas have origins in China. Chihuahuas were sacred animals to pre-Columbian Native Americans.
