Rescue Me ID: 17-09-27-00287Dina Lou (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dina Lou is a 3-year old Terrier mix'|one of the 29 dogs Fur Fun Rescue took in from the Arkansas shelter after Hurricane Harvey. She is 17lbs of total sweetness! Despite so much time in a shelter, Dina Lou is adapting to life in a home, with the noises, people, and other animals. She adores meeting new folks and absolutely loves kids! She gets along fine with the other dogs and cats she has met'|but, in the end it is people who she most wants to be with. Dina Lou is a cuddler and will snuggle right in next to you for a belly rub, head scratch, or just to be near you. She makes it very clear when she would prefer you keep petting ... (Read More)her with her nudges and pawing'|she is a total love-bug! She also enjoys time exploring and playing in the yard. While a fenced in yard is not a huge deal, I am sure Dina Lou would prefer it after so much time without the space and freedom to run. Dina Lou is just learning about toys and seems to prefer the cat toys over the squeaky dog ones. She is not sure what to do when you throw a ball but will run around the yard and play chase with you forever! This nugget of joy walks well on a leash with her frequent stops being to meet new people or check out noises and new things she has never experienced. While Dina Lou has some tendencies that would indicate she has been in a home, with a family'|there is still much she is learning and a lot of the world that is new to her. Dina Lou was one of the many of the Arkansas 29 that were Heartworm positive. Because someone failed to give her Heartworm preventative every month she failed his heartworm test at the vet. Dina Lou is undergoing treatment following the American Heartworm Society's protocol. Dina Lou would like to find her forever home but until she is through treatment (about 3 months) we would place her in a foster to adopt home. We want to pay for, and follow through on her heartworm treatment before we complete an adoption but would like Dina Lou to be bonding with his forever family soon. Dina Lou is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and has been HW tested. If you would like to meet Dina Lou, please complete the adoption application found at our website (www.furfunrescue.org) and if you have questions about her please call Rox at 319-929-6657 or email her at rox@furfunrescue.org Indoor home only.     Peanut is a senior Dachshund mix who weighs 16 pounds. He is probably 12 or 13 years old. Peanut is a real sweetheart who is good with other dogs and cats. His teeth were in horrible shape and he couldn't eat dry dog food. Peanut got to our vet and got checked out, His heart is strong and he is in good shape. PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Iowa
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
