Happy is around 13 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. We adopted her from Washington Rescue Alliance in Feb 2014 and she immediately bonded with me only. She lost an eye when she was living on the streets and lost her second eye last year due to glaucoma. She must have had a very bad life before she came to us. She doesn't like to be handled much. She is sweet but fearful. She hasn't overcome her anxiety and fear of dogs and people. She is in need of someone that is home with her during the day because she is anxious. She likes to rest on the floor near her person. We love her but she's getting more and more upset when I'm at work or leave for a few minutes or a few hours at night or on the weekend - she will cry or bark. She's not active and very slow due to age and arthritis so she doesn't require walking, but she does enjoy smelling. She doesn't like being confined to a crate (or any one room) but used to enjoy getting in on her own with door remaining open. She needs a very special person who's looking for an inactive companion. Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in D.C. if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
