Rescue Me ID: 15-05-23-00324Little Ricky (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Little Ricky has been making friends since the day he was brought in to the shelter in Arkansas where he had been found as a stray. He's just a little guy at about 10 pounds and he'll follow you anywhere you go - - he just loves people! Little Ricky is curious and affectionate, loves to be held, and tosses his toys if no one else will do it for him! He's very social with other dogs and thinks your lap is the best place to sit!! He's been great with visiting school-aged children and teens so we know he'd be fine with older kids in the home, and he loves other dogs so we know he'll be great if there's a built-in buddy. We think he's about 2 - ... (Read More)3 years old and he is a very healthy boy. We have no idea what his true mix is, but we can promise he'll be a loyal boy who will always be grateful you saved him. If you have room in your heart and home for a boy with personality to spare, please visit www.pinkshelter.com for more information about the adoption process or click here for our online application. Full vetting AND neuter included in his $300 adoption fee. Little Ricky is in Arkansas and transport fee is additional $140. IF YOU HAVE AOL or YAHOO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILE FOR OUR RESPONSE. About Little Pink Shelter - CT Chapter About Our Rescue Group... Little Pink Shelter is a registered 501(c)3 charity. Based in Westport, CT, The Little Pink Shelter was started by one dog loving woman who, after having won her battle against breast cancer, decided to help shelter dogs win their fight for a second chance at life. Today, The Little Pink Shelter is directed solely by Holly who works closely with select shelters and rescues in Arkansas, where too many wonderful dogs are put down because of lack of space. Since founding The Little Pink Shelter, Holly has placed over 2.000+ dogs and puppies into loving homes. Come Meet Our Pets... We do not have a facility in Connecticut, so you can only visit The Little Pink Shelter on the internet. Our dogs and puppies are usually fostered in the south and the overwhelming majority of them are adopted out before they arrive so they can go right home after transport and begin bonding with their new forever families! Check out the 'Love Fests' Albums on our Facebook Fan Page! We are always in search of short term foster homes up here in Connecticut and the surrounding states!!! If you're not ready for a full 15+ year commitment, or if you have always wanted to help in some way, please consider short-term fostering a dog or puppy for us! Write us for more info! Our Adoption Process... The first step in the process is submitting an online application located through a link in each pet's description, or from our website at www.pinkshelter.com under the 'How to Adopt' tab. Whenever possible we like to begin review with a vet reference. After that, we will be in touch to set up a lengthy phone interview where each of us has the opportunity to ask all our questions of the other. Home visits are at our discretion. Once approved, there is a contract and transport is arranged if necessary. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-23-00272Chiquita Banana (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

When a little girl is this happy, this spunky and this hilarious what else do you name her?!? Chiquita is a silly little banana who makes everyone laugh (and her quirky smile will have you smiling right with her!) She is a whirlwind of a girl who doesn't want to miss a thing -- curious and smart with a natural exuberance for life. The dogs in her foster home consider her a pest because she constantly wants to play and they're older and grumpier, but if there's another fun-loving dog in the house, it is sure to be 'Game On!' She is super social with the men, women and the school-aged kids she's met. She rides very well in the car like she ... (Read More)believes she belongs there at all times, and she's always going to think your lap is the best place to sit. Chiquita is about 2 - 3 years old, she weighs about 8 pounds and we have no idea what her true mix is. When she was found as a stray, she tested low-positive for heartworm, but she was treated, cured and that's all behind her now. If you're looking for a funny little companion like Chiquita Banana, who wants to live life to the fullest, please visit www.pinkshelter.com for more information about the adoption process or click here for our online application. Full vetting AND spay included in her $300 adoption fee. Chiquita is in Arkansas and transport fee is additional $150. IF YOU HAVE AOL or YAHOO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILE FOR OUR RESPONSE. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This guy knows no boundaries. Three legged or not he is always on the go. He is a cuddle bug. Can get bossy so needs consistent reinforcement of good behavior so the bossy behavior goes. Mostly bossy over other dogs. Gets growly and will teeth you but does not bite particularly if you have him crated and need to lift him out. Tends to pick on my bigger dogs too. They ignore him mainly and put him in his place if need be but cautioning that he can be fussy about his 'house' mates. Option of fostering to adopt to see if he is a match first before completing the adoption. Email me for application and information.

LOLA....L-O-L-A....LOLA.... If there was ever a dog that should be named after an iconic Sixties drag queen, it's our comical Lola. Her adopter will surely have one helluva sense of humor! Lola was recently surrendered by humorless owners, to a high kill animal control facility, where she wasn't exactly the belle of the ball. Lola was pretty peeved at the betrayal, and was not shy about voicing her opinion. Lola's owners had nearly ruined this two year old. Our little porker weighed in at a whopping nine pounds, waddling on a petite frame that should support five pounds comfortably. Lola shows obvious signs of 'spoiled little dog syndrome', ... (Read More)which occurs when tiny terrors are undersocialized and overfed! Our first mission was to cure Lola's kennel cough, which lingered a bit due to her weight issue, and then to shave a good four pounds off that tubby butt with a nutrient dense grainfree diet high in omega fats. So far Lola is down to a svelte six pounds. Lola is a one in a million character who will charm the daylights out of her adopter, and we bet that her chosen person will be a big fan of Tim Burton movies. She has that kind of cartoon look that we can envision for the accessory purse dog in The Corpse Bride. She is pure Chihuahua, through and through, and has the characteristic apple shaped head and tiny pointed schnozz. Lola seems to have a perpetual look of wide-eyed surprise, and you can just tell she's giving you the stink-eye. Lola is particular about whom she cozies up to, so she's not a good candidate for families with kids who will become heart broken if Lola gives them the snub. Once she picks her person, she warms quickly and bonds like glue. Lola is completely in love with her foster Mom, Ingrid, and they travel well together. Lola can be lazy, and loves to be carried, but our weightloss bootcamp approach insists that she flat foot it. Lola would do well in a quiet, calm adult home, where she can relax and come into her own. It is in the interest of her long term health to continue on the weight loss regimen and then to maintain a healthy weight going forward. Presently, Lola is a low-energy couch potato type pup, unless the scent of bacon or some other tasty treat, is in the air, and then she skeedadles toward the food like a squirrel after a nut. She should be encouraged to take leisurely walks with her adopter and to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Lola is not the kind of dog that's going to charm family and friends, so her adopter will have to be patient in introducing her to new people. She can be fussy about strangers touching her, but will warm up once she's had a chance to spend some time observing that they mean her no harm. She could easily join a multi-dog or cat home: she's not totally interactive with other animals, but co-exists with them in a calm fashion. Lola has good house manners and is housetrained and paper trained. She is in good health, now that her weight is under control, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Lola, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-08-00116Blondie (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Three years old, darling Blondie came to us from the cold, harsh city pound, where she spent some time after having been snagged as a stray. She was pretty distressed looking with her dirty coat and gaunt expression. It appeared that Blondie hadn't had a good meal in a while. Blondie was billed as a Chihuahua mix, and we see the Chihuahua coloring and markings. However, weighing in at 12 pounds, Blondie has a stocky, muscular build, and high energy level, so we suspect a healthy dose of Jack Russell Terrier. Blondie has the full throttle Terrier personality that JRT folks love. Blondie did not have an easy time of it at the shelter. She ... (Read More)was frightened and mistrustful of human touch, particularly during her vet exam. Initially she did not endear herself to shelter staff, but when we met her, we figured she had a whopping case if Shelteritis which usually wears off once a dog exits the premises and settles into foster care. Blondie has decompressed nicely! She has transformed into a pint sized dynamo who adores all human attention.....once she decides that the humans pass muster. She is an opinionated little squirt at first, and gives off quite the Diva vibe, but then appears to want nothing more than heaps of human attention lavished on her. Blondie is extraordinarily affectionate, and would be a superb companion for the active single or couple, who adore their high energy Petite Divas. Blondie will bond to her people quickly, but will need adopters to be patient and allow her to come to them in her own time. Also, adopters must be willing to instruct friends, family and strangers to give Blondie her space when meeting. Blondie can be an attention hog and is not fond of sharing her people with other dogs. She will likely scrap over items like toys and treats, so we think she would do well as an only dog. She has had no formal obedience work beyond what we have started in foster care, but she has picked up the basics nicely. Blondie is eager to please and very praise motivated, so she is an excellent candidate for leadership training. Blondie needs an assertive adopter who is willing to lead her toward Canine Good Citizenship. She needs some work on basic manners and socialization with other dogs. It doesn't appear that Blondie has had much contact with other dogs and her pack manners are lacking. We have not had her around cats, but that Terrier vibe in her would lead to feline trouble. Blondie would be an appropriate companion for the seasoned adult Terrier enthusiast, who enjoys the rescue and training process. We'd like to avoid small children because Blondie needs consistent, experienced handling. Blondie is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. She has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Blondie, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-24-00065Amigo (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our Amigo is a delightful little scrapper, who looks like he could have strutted right off the set of the latest Disney movie. Five years old, Amigo was abandoned by his owner to a high kill animal control shelter, in favor of the new puppy, who apparently did not make a favorable impression on our sweet, little Alpha Stud Muffin. Adding a puppy to an adult dog home takes patience, troublshooting, and care to make appropriate introductions. None of that transpired in Amigo's home, and his owner quickly panicked and gave him the boot. His bravado melted in the shelter, confidence gaving way to fear. And so, as soon as we could get our hands ... (Read More)on him, we brought Amigo home to give this handsome heartbreaker a shot at a better life. Amigo has been described by Shelter Staff as a Chihuahua mix, and we can see the signature Chi Apple shaped head. Weighing in at 13 pounds, Amigo has a sturdy, muscular physique, as well as ALL the attitude and panache of the Miniature Pinscher....The King of the Toys. Amigo is a huge dog in a peewee package. Amigo has a big personality and would do best in the company of a confident, experienced adopter, who can provide the exercise and leadership that Amigo needs to be happy. If left to his own devices, or ignored for too long, Amigo can become rambunctious and get into mischief. Amigo would love to join the active lifestyle of an active single or couple who have some solid small dog experience. He is an energetic companion and would benefit greatly from his adopter's daily walk or run. Amigo would do best in a calm, laid back environment, and would not be the best choice for a busy family with small children. Amigo likes to get his yayas out and then chill out and relax, unfettered by toddler touch. We think Amigo would revel in the attention he would receive as the solo canine occupant in his new home, although he could coexist with another well trained dog, if the adopter has good leadership chops, and can maintain a calm environment. Amigo does have a bit of a Napoleon complex, and he tends to express an opinion around large dogs, so adopters should be aware and keep him controlled in dog parks and on daily leash walks. Sometimes our little Comanchero needs to be protected from himself! Amigo's former owner reported that he lived peacefully with cats. Amigo has pretty good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur during the transition to a new potty routine. Amigo is an adult dog, who is accustomed to home life, and not destructive in any way that we have observed. Amigo is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has had a full dental cleaning and his teeth are now in great shape. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza), bordatella and lyme. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and had a negative fecal test. If you are interested in Amigo, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info. (Less)

Jax will be able to travel north after June 1, 2015. Little Jax has had a rough start in his first 3 years on this earth, but we have made a promise to him that he will never have to experience all these hardships ever again. Jax's foster mothers' son was helping a friend move furniture when he noticed a little dog outside next door. He was shivering as it was 20 degrees out and the dog appeared extremely malnourished. Her son went and knocked on the door next door and told them it was too cold for the dog to be outside. The tenants informed him, that it was not their dog and the previous owners had left him there. They said ' we throw him ... (Read More)some scraps.... every once in a while.' Jax's foster mother's son was infuriated by this and he picked up Jax and put him in his truck and took him home. It was there that they bathed him and fed him, and gave him a warm place to sleep. Our foster said you could tell by the look on Jax's face he was extremely grateful. Jax has every reason in the world to hate humans, but he doesn't. He has lots of love to give, and is being shown that humans are good every day now.     Rowdy will be able to travel north after June 1, 2015. Rowdy is a male one and a half year old Chihuahua / Rat Terrier Mix. He is approximately 14lbs with a moderate activity level. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He is a funny little guy. He is timid with humans at first, but warms up very quickly. However, with dogs it is a different story. Rowdy wants to play, play, play!! He does not care how big or small he wants to get in on the action. He will bark a little if he gets squished in the action, but it is just because he is saying 'Hey, guys I am down here playing too, watch where you are stepping! Then he jumps right ... (Read More)back in the action. He is a little scared of loud noises, and will retreat to his kennel if he hears one. However, he does not stay there long, because he is very curious and wants to know what is going on. He is not crated too frequently, but has done very well for the few hours he has been crated. He is crated when he rides in the car, because he is so small, and has done just fine. Rowdy did not really enjoy the leash at first, but now he is tolerating it just fine. Rowdy will be available April. He has darted out of the fenced in yard before, because he is so curious, but did not go very far and was very humbly picked up and brought back in. He has not been around cats before. Rowdy has done well with his foster mother's grandchildren ages 2-4. Animal ID: RDV508HANK (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

UPDATE FROM SOUTH: I had the pleasure of 'babysitting' Hank for two days. I have to say he is an awesome and well adjusted little doggie. He entered my home that has 9 dogs ( personal and foster) with no reservations. He played well with all of my dogs. They range from an 8 pound Chihuahua to a 80 pound bulldog. He snuggled in my bed with the rest of my pack like a member of our group. Hank will make a great addition to any family. Imagine being in the middle of the desert on an extremely hot day. No sign of food and water for miles, you have no idea when your next meal will be, or if you will ever eat again. This was essentially how Hank ... (Read More)was found; by a young girl getting off the bus, who happened to have a huge heart. She saw that Hank was extremely frail and weak ,picked him up and carried him all the way to her house, where she and her mother worked together to begin Hank's rehabilitation. Hank is a male 14 lb Chihuahua mix and is approximately 1-2 years old, he is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He has been de wormed and is in the process of being dewormed again. Hank does well in a car and on leash, and is in the process of being house trained. He also does well in a crate. Hank has done well with people of all ages. Although he typically does not pay much attention to children, if they are willing to give him lots of love and affection he is happy to oblige. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but is a bit unsure about kittens and cats. He has not acted out aggressively towards any felines, but tends to shy away. Hank is a submissive dog who just wants to be with people and given affection. An ideal home for Hank would be one where his new owners would be home more often than they are not. As you can imagine his life was quite lonely before and he wants to make sure he will never be left alone again. Hank has a moderate energy level, and enjoys running around, but prefers to be on the couch next to his people. He is still a little frail so he needs lots and lots of healthy treats and food to get him back to an ideal weight. Hank would do well in almost any family as long as they were willing to let him snuggle up on the couch and give him lots of attention to assure him he will never be abandoned again. If his new home were to have children it is recommended that they are over the age of 8, as Chihuahua's have very fine bones and can be easily unintentionally injured by a small child. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in adopting Hank.     Tobey came to us when his owners decided he deserved better - they were unable to properly care for him so they made a tough decision to allow us to find Tobey a home where he would get all the attention he deserves! Tobey is initially very nervous around men, but LOVES women & children. He also adores other dogs! We aren't sure how he does with kitties yet. Tobey is about 3-4 years old and 12-15 lbs. This little guy comes out of his shell as soon as he trusts you! He is a Japanese Chin/Chihuahua mix and will need a family who understands that he is slow to warm up.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chihuahua in Connecticut
Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.
