Rescue Me ID: 15-02-26-00361Abbe Gaella (female)

Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Abbe Gaella is the sweetest dog I've ever known. I adopted her a year ago and she is very sweet and so submissive from being overly trained that living with us has been a big change for her. I don't know if she was mistreated by her previous parent(s), but she certainly acts like she has been through some stuff. Her reactions are soooooo timid and frightened. She is coming into her own a bit more over time, and she does stand up for herself if she needs to though. She does have a potty in the house issue that I have not been able to resolve because I dont have the skills. The only way I know how to handle it is to have a time out in her ... (Read More)in her cage, but that has not worked. She goes outside, she knows to go outside. I live with my mother in a new house and I am leaving here, but Abbe doesn't like to travel, which my last dog who died last year (that's why I tried to adopt a new daughter) always did. Abbe and I are just not bonding and I don't think this is a good home for her to stay in. I think she should be in a home where she is the princess, hopefully either no other dogs or another playmate small dog like her to be a companion for her. She seems lonely and sad to me. Abbe has been through 3 moves already, and 2 major life changes because that woman got divorced and remarried and her new husband didnt want Abbe :( I am so sad to have to give her up, but I think it is best for her. It's been a year of trying to get us to blend into a little family of two, but I can't go anywhere and I can't take her, and I know she isn't happy here when I am gone. I have 3 businesses and my other dog was with me traveling and working with me for 7 years. I just assumed all dogs were similar because I know so many that go to work with their parents. I tried to have a friend adopt her, but I am not sure if she will be well provided for. She deserves to be a princess. She is so sweet and such a good girl. Ideally, I think the best home for her would be with a family that has kids 3+ years old so that they wont hurt her. (The woman I adopted her from said she has a daycare in her home and a child broke Abbe's leg before!!!!!!!!!!!!!) She babies it sometimes, but she has gotten to the point now of allowing me to dry her off when she comes in from going potty in the snow or rain, so I think she is over the fear that someone might re-break her legs. I can't even imagine the trauma she has gone through. She is so so tiny. When I adopted her, she was 4.5 pounds and now she is twice that. She never ate when I adopted her and I had to beg her to eat and hand feed her for the first 3 months we were together. My mom WAS feeding the dogs people food (which she never had before and I do NOT agree with feeding dogs people food at all). Now she has a major eating problem. She acts like she never eats, but she is fed 2 good meals daily. She is on a 'diet' with no more people food and just her 3 meals a day and oatmeal home-made treats. I would like someone to adopt Abbe who is gentle, mature enough to give her really great care, and who has the TIME to spend with her, consistently and play with her, who is has a home and a doggy door with a fenced yard to keep her safe. Someone kind, loving, affectionate, and who loves to play with her and rub her belly and pet her for at least an hour a day. This is why I think a family with kids would be a nice thing for her, lots of interactions with her family, with her has the only focused on family pet, or perhaps with a woman who will love her and spoil her as much as she deserves. She needs to go out for walks and she likes that. I am not going to give her away to just anyone. I want to see where she will be living to make sure that this is a good home for her. I want to meet her adoptive parent(s) and family and see everyone interact together. I have everything she needs to care for her. She has a metal crate that she knows as cage, which she actually likes to be in with her brown blanket. She has toys and grooming stuff too. She doesn't like to wear outfits or her fancy diamond necklace or bows in her hair. Oh, she is a tiny long-haired Chihuahua. I do have another video and more photos of her :) (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-26-00358DIAMOND (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This little southern girl is Diamond, an 8 year old Chihuahua. She is 10lbs, full of life with a big personality. She is good with other small dogs but hasn't been around large ones. Although she is ok with other small dogs she is a little bossy so might be best as an only dog. Her ideal home would be a retired couple or a family with older children. Diamond is in an overcrowded kill shelter and isn't an adopters first choice when there are younger dogs or puppies around. Although she has become a shelter staff favorite, being an older dog here in Texas her chances of being adopted are very, very slim. So we are looking for Diamond's ... Diamond is heartworm negative, spayed, mico-chipped, up to date on her vacs and ready to make a lucky family a great dog! Her adoption fee is $170 and her secure transport is $185. Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Baby, 8 year old, 10 lb Chihuahua that has been discarded by a back yard breeder. Baby is a little shy but likes to be held and touched. She is looking for a quiet home where she can become a loved family member. Although she is 8 years old, she can bring many years of enjoyment to her new family because the average life expectancy of a Chi is 15 to 18 years! Baby is now spayed, micro chipped, up to date on her vacs, and heart worm negative. She is currently in an over crowed shelter in the high kill state of Texas where there are too many great dogs and too few good adopters. Bottom line, this little girl doesn't have a chance ...     Romeo, oh Romeo! You're just the cutest little guy! Romeo is a chi - just about three years old. He's a tiny, 5-lb bundle of happiness! He's spunky and funny, and will keep you smiling and laughing every day :) Romeo has his cuddly side, too though - he just loves attention and pets and curling up on your lap. He is good with other dogs his own size - he was initially a bit timid with larger dogs, but seems to be gaining courage as he relaxes out of the pound. He is great with children of all ages and does well with cats, too! Romeo is neutered, and UTD with his vaccines. He's heartworm negative, but tested positive for exposure to ... (Read More)Lyme disease (with NO symptoms). He's being given the normal treatment of antibiotics as a precaution. Dogs who test positive for Lyme will always test positive, even after treatment - but once the treatment is completed there should be no health issues for Romeo! We also discovered that he has localized demodectic (NOT contagious) mange, and he is being treated for that as well. We are currently accepting adoption applications for Romeo - however no adoption will be finalized until he finishes treatment and is cleared medically. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tiny Tim was the smallest in a litter that was left in a cage on a porch with their Mom. Their people had been taken to jail and the dogs were left behind. Luckily, we brought the family into our kind-hearted foster home so they would have the food, vetting and love they need to thrive. TT is a bit shyer than the rest of the group but once he is playing with his siblings and resident large dogs, he is all in. TT is so sweet and just lives for affection and kisses when he takes time out from playing with the other dogs. He enjoys people and is small so he will do best with a family of older kids or adults. TT has received his shots, ... (Read More)worming, neuter and microchip. Now he just needs a family to call his own, could that be you?     Rowdy is a male one and a half year old Chihuahua / Rat Terrier Mix. He is approximately 14lbs with a moderate activity level. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He is a funny little guy. He is timid with humans at first, but warms up very quickly. However, with dogs it is a different story. Rowdy wants to play, play, play!! He does not care how big or small he wants to get in on the action. He will bark a little if he gets squished in the action, but it is just because he is saying 'Hey, guys I am down here playing too, watch where you are stepping! Then he jumps right back in the action. He is a little scared of loud ... (Read More)noises, and will retreat to his kennel if he hears one. However, he does not stay there long, because he is very curious and wants to know what is going on. He is not crated too frequently, but has done very well for the few hours he has been crated. He is crated when he rides in the car, because he is so small, and has done just fine. Rowdy did not really enjoy the leash at first, but now he is tolerating it just fine. Rowdy will be available April. He has darted out of the fenced in yard before, because he is so curious, but did not go very far and was very humbly picked up and brought back in. He has not been around cats before. Rowdy has done well with his foster mother's grandchildren ages 2-4. Animal ID: RDV511GADGET (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER: Gadget is a 15 month old 8 lb., female Chihuahua mix. We are happy to say that she has completed her heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free!! Gadget is a very sweet girl, and a quick learner. She already knows sit, down, stay, and go to your bed. When she gets really excited, she gets really silly and spins in circles! She loves her tennis balls and stuffed toys. Gadget is not really interested in interacting with other dogs, she prefers the company of humans, and is happy to spend the day being your buddy while you do the daily chores. She loves to curl up on a pillow in someone's lap. Right now Gadget is a ... (Read More)little too interested in her foster mother's cats. If she gets too close and the cat growls she will back off. She may be able to do -exist with a dog savvy cat in her new home. Please keep in mind all interactions between a cat and dog should be supervised, and if either animal is showing signs of stress, it is the owner's responsibility to remove the animals form the situation. Gadget does well in the crate during the day, but does not enjoy being in one at night. She would prefer to sleep at the foot of someone's bed. Chihuahua's are very sensitive to the cold, so right now Gadget is not enjoying going outside. Her foster mom always has a sweater on her when she goes outside to make sure she is warm. She loves going for rides in the car, and is very easy to walk on leash. Gadget is extremely smart, but also very sensitive. You could say she almost 'takes it personally' when being corrected, and gets very sad and will 'pout.' This is something her new owner should be mindful of when redirecting her behavior to their desired behavior. However, the great news is Gadget is so smart and aims to please, this should be no problem at all. Gadget's foster mother says she was protective of her and her daughter to her husband and teenage son at first, but once she go to know them her behavior was much improved. Gadget had trauma earlier in her life and it is possible that it was at the hands of a man, however, we do not know this for sure. It is important to remain patient while these dogs are learning to trust humans again, because you never know what they have experienced earlier in life. The ideal home for Gadget would be a quiet home, with a low activity level as she does not enjoy lots of commotion. Her new home may include children as long as they were over the age of 8. She is very small and does not eat very much so apartment or a house would be fine. She would be wonderful as a companion for an older person who desires a dog, but cannot do much physical activity as her exercise needs are very low. She would be happy to curl up and watch the 'Price is Right' on your lap every morning. She would also make a nice companion for young couple living in their first apartment, who have busy schedules, but want a dog. Her new home many include another dog who is similar in size and had a low activity level that wouldn't mind a napping friend. However, she would be fine as an only dog as well. Please fill out an application if you think Gadget sounds like the right match for you.PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, SEE MORE PHOTOS, AND INFORMATION ON THE DOG: www.rescuedogvillage.com (Less)

Animal ID: RDV508HANK (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

UPDATE FROM SOUTH: I had the pleasure of 'babysitting' Hank for two days. I have to say he is an awesome and well adjusted little doggie. He entered my home that has 9 dogs ( personal and foster) with no reservations. He played well with all of my dogs. They range from an 8 pound Chihuahua to a 80 pound bulldog. He snuggled in my bed with the rest of my pack like a member of our group. Hank will make a great addition to any family. Imagine being in the middle of the desert on an extremely hot day. No sign of food and water for miles, you have no idea when your next meal will be, or if you will ever eat again. This was essentially how Hank ... (Read More)was found; by a young girl getting off the bus, who happened to have a huge heart. She saw that Hank was extremely frail and weak ,picked him up and carried him all the way to her house, where she and her mother worked together to begin Hank's rehabilitation. Hank is a male 14 lb Chihuahua mix and is approximately 1-2 years old, he is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He has been de wormed and is in the process of being dewormed again. Hank does well in a car and on leash, and is in the process of being house trained. He also does well in a crate. Hank has done well with people of all ages. Although he typically does not pay much attention to children, if they are willing to give him lots of love and affection he is happy to oblige. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but is a bit unsure about kittens and cats. He has not acted out aggressively towards any felines, but tends to shy away. Hank is a submissive dog who just wants to be with people and given affection. An ideal home for Hank would be one where his new owners would be home more often than they are not. As you can imagine his life was quite lonely before and he wants to make sure he will never be left alone again. Hank has a moderate energy level, and enjoys running around, but prefers to be on the couch next to his people. He is still a little frail so he needs lots and lots of healthy treats and food to get him back to an ideal weight. Hank would do well in almost any family as long as they were willing to let him snuggle up on the couch and give him lots of attention to assure him he will never be abandoned again. If his new home were to have children it is recommended that they are over the age of 8, as Chihuahua's have very fine bones and can be easily unintentionally injured by a small child. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in adopting Hank.
